The most effective way to prioritize AI and Copilot initiatives is to start with business outcomes, not with the technology itself. Instead of asking, “What can AI do?”, ask, “What business result do we need to achieve?”
Typical outcome areas include:
- Accelerate innovation
- Improve margins
- Grow revenue
- Improve service and customer experience
- Reduce risk and improve compliance
- Increase output and decision speed
Once you’re clear on outcomes, identify AI opportunities and score them using a few decision criteria:
- Business impact – expected effect on revenue, cost, speed, or quality
- Effort to implement – time, complexity, and resources required
- Speed to value – how quickly you can see measurable results
- Risk readiness – data, compliance, and change-management readiness
Map these opportunities on a simple impact/feasibility matrix:
- Quick wins – high impact, relatively easy to implement
- Strategic bets – high impact, higher effort and longer horizon
- Tactical improvements – useful but more incremental
- Low priority – low impact and high effort
Then, select 3–5 high-value bets for Copilot and AI agents that directly support your top business priorities. This focus helps you avoid spreading resources too thin and makes it easier to communicate a clear AI vision across the organization.
